Finding peace may depend upon achieving a higher consciousness

Oct 14 2011 Published by under Finding Peace

In today's world, finding peace can be a major challenge. There are so many way individuals can get sidetracked. Television and the media reflect a more conflict-driven world than ever before, and it seems there is no shortage of political groups looking to exploit individuals' differences of opinion for their own purposes. This can tear people apart from one another.

Individuals who are looking to put this type of conflict behind them may need to take steps to remove their consciousness from a world that sells violence and derision. Consciousness-raising activities may play an important role in a person's ability to free their mind from the numbing effects of outside influences.

Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee says that meditation is one of the most effective ways for individuals to raise their consciousness. The practice allows people to clear their mind of unnecessary thoughts, allowing them to devote all of their thinking power to peaceful ends.

Taking steps to raise one's consciousness may not create a more peaceful world around an individual, but it does have the power to make a person's thoughts more immune to the conflict that rages around them, allowing them to find peace.

Imagine by John Lennon reflects theme of peace, change

Ilchi Lee believes in peace throughout the world and this was a theme he communicated to the 2000 UN Peace Summit as a featured speaker. He administered a prayer of peace to better unite countries under one common sentiment.

This is the theme of John Lennon's legendary hit, Imagine, as well, a song that speaks about people shedding their differences and becoming united despite everything. He sings of a world that has no divisions and no shortages, because everyone shares everything.

"Imagine there's no countries / It isn't hard to do / Nothing to kill or die for," he says in a plaintive voice. "Imagine all the people / Living in peace…"

At the time of its 1971 release, Imagine peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and reached the top of charts in Canada and Australia. Lennon claimed that it is as good as anything he had ever written when he was a member of the Beatles.

Critics seem to agree – Rolling Stone listed Imagine as the third greatest song of all time in its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
