Break Down Your Walls

I discovered this flash video on ilchi.com. It had a message by Ilchi Lee, and it struck a cord in me and I became excited to share it. So here it is:

Bright SkiesI want to tell those who are encased in a wall of loneliness and emptiness,
Those who are trying to fill up that space with something, anything,
To stop trying to fill up that small space.
But instead to break down the walls and meet time and space,
The skies, the stars, and this earth.

That this is when they will feel true freedom.
That this when they will find a shining star of a vision inside their hearts.
That this is when their lives will be eternally bright and free.
That this is when they know they are eternal beings.

What do you feel when you read it? These are the kinds of messages that stir me awake.

Ilchi Lee Reveals the Lost Symbol

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

“What if I told you that a thought … any tiny idea that forms in your mind … actually has a mass? What if I told you that a thought is an actual thing, a measurable entity, with a measurable mass? A miniscule mass, of course, but mass nonetheless. What are the implications?”

“Hypothetically speaking? Well, the obvious implications are … if a thought has mass, then a thought exerts gravity and can pull things toward it.”

Katherine smiled. “You’re good. Now take it a step further. What happens if many people start focusing on the same thought? All the occurrences of that same thought begin to merge into one, and the cumulative mass of this thought begins to grow. And therefore, its gravity grows.”

“Okay.”

“Meaning … if enough people begin thinking the same thing, then the gravitational force of that thought becomes tangible … and it exerts an actual force.” Katherine winked. “And it can have measurable effect in our physical world.”

This excerpt is from Dan Brown’s latest novel, The Lost Symbol. Refreshingly, the The Da Vinci Code author has chosen many New Thought concepts, including those that happen to be taught by Ilchi Lee, as the theme and message for his new book. Compare the above to Ilchi Lee’s rules for your “Brain Operating System” or BOS:

  1. Good news makes a good brain.
  2. Choose it and it will happen.
  3. Stay awake and pay attention.

These rules acknowledge the creative power of our brains, and remind us to pay attention to what we are thinking, and to keep it positive and focused on what we really want. They acknowledge that, as Dan Brown writes:

“We are creators, and yet we naively play the role of ‘the created.’ We see ourselves as helpless sheep buffeted around by the God who made us. We kneel like frightened children, begging for help, for forgiveness, for good luck. But once we realize that we are truly created in the Creator’s image, we will start to understand that we, too, must be Creators. When we understand this fact, the doors will burst wide open for human potential.” […]

Ilchi Lee has spent his career developing Brain Education to help people harness the true creative power of their brains. He’s also helped them open their hearts, so that they can choose goals that their hearts, their souls, want—those that benefit all humanity. Because he knows that:

“The most amazing part,” Katherine said, “is that as soon as we humans begin to harness our true power, we will have enormous control over our world. We will be able to design reality rather than merely react to it.”

Langdon lowered his gaze. “That sounds … dangerous.”

Katherine looked startled … and impressed. “Yes, exactly! If thoughts affect the world, then we must be very careful how we think. Destructive thoughts have influence, too, and we all know it’s far easier to destroy than it is to create.”

He’s also gathered people into a community who want to use that power to create a happy, healthy, and peaceful world. They focus and work together in harmony because they know, as Ilchi Lee has taught, that:

“…two heads are better than one … and yet two heads are not twice better, they are many, many times better. Multiple minds working in unison magnify a thought’s effect … exponentially. This is the inherent power of prayer groups, healing circles, singing in unison, and worshipping en masse. The idea of universal consciousness is not an ethereal New Age concept. […]

Through Brain Education workshops such as Shim Sung, Ilchi Lee has enabled people to experience this truth personally and viscerally. He has helped them find the lost symbol inside themselves so they can make it their own and endeavor to live it. Mr. Lee believes that when 100 million people in the world are doing this, a critical tipping point will be reached, and the consciousness of humanity will shift to embody this truth.

I’m grateful to Dan Brown for using these concepts in his novel, because I think novels are great purveyors of ideas—Animal Farm, Atlas Shrugged, 1984, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, The Celestine Prophecy. All have made people think about powerful concepts, or at least made them more common parlance in our society—a critical step toward the shift in consciousness the characters in The Lost Symbol predict is on the horizon.

Declaration of Humanity: We Are All Children of the Earth

A succinct summary of Ilchi Lee’s philosophy on the nature of humanity is this Declaration of Humanity ratified at the First Humanity Conference in June 2001 in Seoul, South Korea. This 12,000-person event included such dignitaries as former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, environmental activist Maurice Strong, and renowned journalist Seymour Topping.

Just 100 Million

All of humanity has a shared spiritual heritage, which is only natural because we all came from One. Realizing the Oneness of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity is not an intellectual or even philosophical endeavor. You need to feel it with every single fiber of your being, imprinted onto every one of your cells through profound experience of energy. That’s why Ilchi Lee developed Brain Education and has worked for 30 years to share it with the world.

He knows that only when enough people experience Oneness can we really come together as a society, as a people, and as Earth Citizens. The time for the chosen few is over. The whole of humanity needs to realize the truth for us to change the fortune of the human race.

But we can start with one hundred million. One hundred million is a critical mass, just a little more than one percent of the total population of the Earth, the tipping point to a mass realization of every individual’s true nature and for what we should live–love for humanity and love for the Earth. Instead of killing and competition, this strong community of Earth Citizens Ilchi Lee has been working to form will engage in acts of healing to uplift our collective human consciousness until we are indeed living in Heaven on Earth.

To realize this dream of a spiritual civilization and peaceful Earth requires the will, discipline, and fortitude to see it through to its completion. It also requires training people so that they can experience Oneness and have the strength and ability to share it with others. These people will raise the consciousness of 100 million Earth Citizens and gather them together in one exemplary community.

Ilchi Lee’s Philosophy of the Soul

According to Ilchi Lee, before you were born, your perfect soul was fully connected to the universe, existing in a state of emptiness and nothingness. When a soul is born into a body, it is separated from the divine, and so generates feelings of loneliness and dissatisfaction. But when you connect your soul to universal energy, or Chunjikiun, your loneliness vanishes. Your soul is happy basking in Yuln’yo, the light, sound, and vibration that forms the source of all life.

The root of your soul lies in your True Self, the essential, unchanging part of you. The root of your True Self lies in Chun-Ji-In, the Heaven-Earth-Human triumvirate that is One. To listen to your soul is to get in touch with your True Self.

Covering your True Self, is your False Self—all of the information and emotions in your brain. It is your philosophy, value system, and personality; it is your body and mind, and the illusion that life and death are distinct and separate. Your False Self is a mask manufactured by your ego for protection. It’s something you build on and construct throughout life to have a role to play in the world. Your False Self craves safety, recognition, and control. Your True Self on the other hand craves the highest forms of human interaction, such as unconditional love and harmonious unity with others.

People’s life struggles stem from the inherent discord between the True Self and the False Self. When people believe they are their False Self, they are denying or are unaware of their own infinite power. On the other hand, when your True Self acts as the master of your body and mind rather than the False Self, you are tapped into the creative potential of the universe. As you follow your True Self, you will let go of your instinctive need for safety, recognition, and control, and replace these desires with the desire to be Hong-ik, or widely benefitting others.

The True Self’s purpose in this life is the completion of your soul, known as Chunhwa in Korean. When your soul is complete, you truly feel happy and at One with the creative divine energy of the universe. When a body dies, a complete soul returns to this energy; an incomplete soul becomes a ghost or reincarnates again.
Completing your soul is a life process for which you must be aware of this life purpose and follow four steps:

  1. Train your brain to be peaceful and healthy.
  2. Develop relaxed concentration, or the capacity to concentrate, strongly and consistently, which can be only achieved through focused and rigorous training.
  3. Use your brain with 100% effort.
  4. Unleash the full creativity of your brain to manifest the dream of benefitting your and everyone’s life to actualize a harmonious and peaceful world. This dream is known as Hong-ik Ingan Ee-hwa Saegae.

As you develop your soul, your consciousness expands, meaning the love that is your true nature expands. Love is the unifying element that bonds people together. When we are able to love widely and unconditionally, our True Self will shine more brightly in the world. As our ability to love others grows, it radiates outward from us, reaching farther and farther in its ability to touch others. As love grows, it follows this basic pattern of expansion: self ➛ family ➛ country ➛ the world. The expansion of our consciousness renews our lives, gives us hope, and leads to a beautiful future.

Ilchi Lee’s Powerfully Peaceful Presence

Ilchi Lee with Flute at the Brain Art Festival 2009 at Radio City Music Hall, NYC

Ilchi Lee with Flute at the Brain Art Festival 2009 at Radio City Music Hall, NYC

There are many comments and testimonials on http://dahnyogavoice.com, and among them I found this one about Ilchi Lee. I agree with the writer–you can’t fake Ilchi Lee’s presence of peace and unconditional love. I thought the readers of this blog should see the comment because it is the direct personal experience of someone who does not work for Dahn Yoga or Ilchi Lee:

01/07/2010 at 9:43 pm

I had the good fortune to meet Ilchi Lee in person at a training in Sedona. His quiet, spiritual presence filled the entire hall with peace like I’ve never felt before.

It is impossible to fake such a presence. It is impossible to have such a powerful presence without being a human being of integrity. So I was surprised when on the way home from the training, I saw the CNN story on a big screen at the airport. The Ilchi Lee depicted on that video was not the same as the man that I had met. On TV, they edited the photographs to make him look like a money-minded, conniving person. I promise you he is not that kind of person at all.

In four months of Dahn Yoga training, I have received more physical benefit than from any other gym, class, or doctor that I have ever been to. My body felt old and stiff and painful; now it is as limber as a child’s. My emotions are much more balanced than before, WITHOUT the need for antidepressants. I am happier and many people have told me that I look better.

The allegations of brainwashing are quite honestly a ridiculous joke. The only messages I’ve received from Dahn practice are of being true to myself and creating peace and love and happiness and health in the world.
Of course, peace and love and happiness and health don’t sell advertising.

Ilchi Lee Poem from Mago’s Dream

This poem came from Ilchi Lee’s book Mago’s Dream. I think it sums up his philosophy nicely, pulling together aspects of the brain, of energy, of humans, of the earth, and the true meaning of enlightenment.

Sun is light, thunder is sound, and wind is vibration.
Light, sound, and vibration are the reality behind all existence.
Wade upstream to the source of humanity
And you shall find light.

Light is the beginning of our life.
Movement of light created sound.
And movement of sound created vibration.
Our life is light, sound, and vibration.
Without time or space.
When everything begins
And where we must return.
Our soul is light, sound, and vibration.

Trapped behind the cage of body
Hidden under the cover of emotions
And imprisoned behind bars of thought
Its light feeble and unseen
Waiting for escape and freedom.

What is enlightenment,
If not recovering the original light?
Light of life, light of the soul,
What we call mysterious and fantastic,
Refers to self
Our own root and source
Which we have forgotten
Leading to loneliness and despair
Loss of the soul

A battle of souls
All lonely and lost
Wearing armor of religions
Wielding swords of ideologies
Shooting arrows of prejudice
Slaves, one and all
Ignorant of enlightenment that will set us free

Only a free soul can continue the path
Only a free soul will finish the journey
Growth of soul can be achieved through good deeds
Perfection of soul can be attained only with
enlightenment

Becoming one with the Earth
That is the key to perfection of the soul
Whose secret you possess already in your brain.

Ilchi Lee Refutes Claims of Sexual Assault

CNN and other media outlets are currently running a story about a civil lawsuit brought against Ilchi Lee, Dahn Yoga, and related individuals and companies. Eight out of ten claims in this lawsuit have already been dismissed. The final two claims involve sexual assault charges against Ilchi Lee, charges that he denies. The Dahn Yoga organization that Ilchi Lee founded, but no longer runs, has put together a website to provide people with information about this case and the many other points portrayed in the media recently. To see their side, go to http://dahnyogavoice.com.

Ilchi Lee’s Tip for Negative Emotions

Ilchi Lee spends most of his time devising simple yet practical ways to help people manage their lives more easily and effectively. Some of these ways he put in his book, Principles of Brain Management: A Practical Approach to Making the Most of Your Brain.

Here is one tip from the book for managing negative emotions:

“It may be difficult at first to redirect your emotions in a positive direction. You may find yourself returning to the destructive emotion, even after you have made up your mind to change. Remember, though, that it is just a habit of the brain that keeps bringing you back to that point. As with any habit, it will take time to practice and break it.

To keep yourself on the positive track, find a way to remind yourself of the constructive action that will replace the negative emotion. For example, you might want to get a small stone and write an inspiring word on it. Or wear a ring that reminds you of your promise to yourself. Every time you see it, your mind will be redirected in a more positive direction.”

Healing Chakra by Ilchi Lee: Translation of the Chun Bu Kyung

In Ilchi Lee’s book, Healing Chakra: Light to Awaken My Soul, he offers a translation and explanation of the Chun Bu Kyung, a 9,000-year old text that mathematically communicates the oneness existing among heaven, earth, and humans. This excerpt from the book communicates the origins of the Chun Bu Kyung and the basis for the training systems Ilchi Lee has developed: Dahn Yoga and Brain Education.

“In the ancient tradition of Korea, there existed a body-mind-spirit training system called Shin-Il-Hap-Il (Divine-One-Together-One), which sought to elevate human consciousness to its highest plateau, that of divinity. More widely known by the name Shin-Sun-Do, the philosophy and ideas contained therein were originally derived from an ancient sacred text called ‘Chun Bu Kyung’ or the Heavenly Code.

The Chun Bu Kyung is the highest authority among the sacred texts in Korean spiritual tradition. It is said that the Chun Bu Kyung was recorded by an ancient sage who realized his own enlightenment through his training regimen of Shin Sun Do, thereby gaining insight into the realities of life and death and the operational flow of the universe. Because the Chun Bu Kyung is essentially a numerical representation of the laws of the cosmos, it cannot be interpreted literally. It will only reveal its true nature and meaning to someone who has experienced the realities of life through Ki energy.

When I first realized enlightenment, I did not know that the nature of my enlightenment was already spoken of in the Chun Bu Kyung. When I finally had the good fortune to learn of it, I realized that my enlightenment had the same inspiration and source as that of the Chun Bu Kyung.

After knowing the Chun Bu Kyung, I could sense the energy of each of its 81 letters when I sank deeply into meditation. The teachings of the Chun Bu Kyung came to me not through the intellect, but through actual experience of its energies. When I experienced the oneness of Heaven, Earth, and Human described in the Chun Bu Kyung, I felt my body become part of the light of the cosmos, attaining a level of ecstasy and peace that spoke to me of divine blessing.

Chun Bu Kyung contains the essence of the trinity, in which good and evil, life and death, heaven and earth are not defined as opposites, but as part of the same cosmic harmony. When we realize that our essence is identical to the essence that makes up the cosmos, we overcome fear, sadness, and anger.

Oneness, where no barrier exists between you and me, is our essence and our divinity. As soon as we are born, we begin the struggle to light up this innate divinity. Once we realize our own divine enlightenment, we will achieve Heavenly Transformation. Heavenly Transformation is the process whereby human beings reach the highest level of awareness, and consciously return to the Source at the moment of death. It is this process that is delineated in the letters of the Chun Bu Kyung.

The secret to Heavenly Transformation lies in the human brain and Ki energy. The Chun Bu Kyung can also be interpreted as a numerical code, outlining the process by which the seven Chakras of the body are activated and made to stimulate the inner potential of the brain in order to achieve spiritual awakening.

The Chun Bu Kyung can act as a guide to lead us across the collective spiritual threshold.”

Here is an English translation of the Chun Bu Kyung:

One begins unmoved moving,
That has no beginning.
One divides to three crowns,
While remaining a limitless mover.
Heaven comes first,
Earth comes second,
Human comes third.
One gathers to build ten,
And infinite forms become the trinity (of heaven, earth, human).
Heaven gains two to make three.
Earth gains two to make three.
Three trinities make six,
And they create seven, and eight, nine appears,
And there comes a turning.
Three and four form a circle,
Five with seven makes one whole.
Way-less is the way all comes and all goes,
Features are changing, and change-less is the maker.
Divine mind is eternal light,
Looking toward celestial light.
Human bears heaven and earth,
And the three make one.

Ilchi Lee Brain Education

As I see it, the human life span has three phases. First we have a growth phase that usually is experienced during childhood, adolescence, and our early twenties. Of course we continue to grow throughout our lives, but this is a particularly intense period of investigation and experimentation during which we try to get to know the world and ourselves.

In our late twenties and thirties, we move into what I call the “success phase,” during which we try to create something tangible with our lives in the physical world, perhaps through career or the development of our finances. The problem is that most people seem to get stuck in this success phase, thinking it is the most important aspect of life. This is a little like a caterpillar thinking he can do no more with his life than spend it eating leaves all day.

In reality, the caterpillar has the ability to transform into a beautiful butterfly, just as you can transform far beyond success in the physical world. Not realizing this, many people choose material success only to feel unfulfilled when it finally arrives.

The Traditional Games Information By Ilchi Lee Brain Education

3-6-9 Games:

01. Sit or stand across from your partner. Or, if three or more are participating, stand or sit in a circle.

02. Each person counts a number, starting with 1. However, if your number contains a 3, 6, or 9, you must clap instead of saying the number (e.g., 9, 16, 32, etc.). If the number has more than one 3, 6, or 9, or a combination of these numbers (e.g., 66, 93, 36, etc.), you must clap twice.

Energy Ball:

01. Sit comfortably with your back straight, preferably in the cross-legged position. Relax your shoulders and tilt your head slightly downward. Place your palms facing upward on the knees.

02. Close your eyes and focus on the surface of the palms. Feel any sensation on the surface of the palms, perhaps tingling or warmth.

03. Gently lift the palms up from the knees and slowly bring the palms closer together until they are about 2 inches apart.

04. Focus on the sensation between the palms. Inhale and slowly draw the hands apart, feeling the sensation growing between the palms. Exhale and feel the “ball” shrink between your hands.

05. Continue to follow the breath as you grow and shrink the energy ball.

Clapping Games by Ilchi Lee Earth Citizen

Girls in the schoolyard traditionally play clapping games such as these, but they are just as valuable for boys as for girls, as they develop concentration and a sense of rhythm. Try playing these games with your child to pass the time when waiting in line.

01. Sit on the floor.

02. Clap your hands once in front of the chest and then once on the floor.

03. Clap once again in front of the chest, and then twice on the floor.

04. Clap once again in front of the chest, and then 3 times on the floor.

05. Now clap once in front of the chest, and twice on the floor.

06. And again, clap once in front of the chest and once on the floor.

07. Continue to follow the 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1 sequence of clapping, seeing how long you can maintain the rhythm. To add a challenge, try slowly increasing the speed.

Count and Clap Game:

01. Sit or stand across from a partner.

02. Clap once near the chest and then once on your partner’s palms.

03. Repeat, but this time clapping twice on your partner’s palms.

04. Continue, each time adding another clap on the palms. For maximum concentration, count the numbers silently.

ilchi lee brain art festival Matching Games

This is a version of te old card-matching game. Even if yor child has mastered store-bought versions, they may find the geometric shapes in this version a little more challenging.

Preparation: On one side of thick card stock, draw images of different shapes in various colors-green triangles, orange circles, red squares, etc. Each image will have a matching image on another card to form pairs of matching cards. Draw the images in crayon or some other medium that will not show through on the other side. Alternatively, you can choose pairs of images from computer clip art or photocopied images from magazines to create the cards.

01. Shuffle the cards and place them face down on a table or at various places around the room.

02. Take turns trying to find matching pairs. During a turn, you may flip two cards. If they match, take both cards and try again. If they do not match, the cards must be turned back over and the next person can give it a try. You can see the cards turned over by others and try to remember their locations.

03. The game continues until all matching sets have been revealed. Whoever has the most cards “wins.”

Overflow with Hope

For several months in 2008, www.ilchi.com sent out a newsletter that featured Hope Messages by Ilchi Lee. At the time, Lee was emphasizing hope a lot in his lectures as he traveled, and from listening to some of them I really felt how important hope is to my life. It sounds very simple if you think about it, as do many things he says once you hear it. But I often find myself grateful that my teacher reminds me of important concepts or the deeper meaning of seemingly ordinary things and events.

Here is a Hope Message that is near and dear to me because it reminds me of how ubiquitous and abundant hope is, and yet how necessary it is for our lives. It also reminds me of how we all have a responsibility to share it when someone needs it.

Overflow with Hope

Let your heart overflow with hope. Feed the better part of yourself, and help it to grow stronger.
And give hope to every person you meet.
Don’t hold it in your chest,
But let it flow to every corner of the world.

For hope is not a jewel
To be guarded in secret,
But a spring that bursts forth
From the center of the earth
Full of Life.

It is a spring that carries your future
And the future of humanity.
It is the motor in our hearts
That propels humanity forward,
And drives us to our chosen destiny.

All we need to do
Is let it.

Find Your Own Perfect Rhythm

Ilchi Lee’s latest method for brain fitness and holistic health, Brain Wave Vibration (www.brainwavevibration.com), has been generating more and more reviews and testimonials.

The latest is by the Tony Awards-winning Broadway star Tommy Tune. True to his creative nature, Tommy gave a endorsement for the book in the form of a poem.

My Experience with Brain Wave Vibration (a poem!)
To be guided to your own perfect rhythm,
to be coaxed yet never forced,
to be encouraged to find the unique vibration within,
and thus to live with it to its fullest
and highest degree.
This is the path as I perceive it. To each his own.

Great Spirits, Great Dreams

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
–ALBERT EINSTEIN

Ilchi Lee has always inspired me to think beyond there ordinary, the usual, the safe. He has inspired me to dream beyond my doubts and fears, even though they still show up when I face challenges and obstacles. But I try not to let my inner opposition stand in the way of my dreams.

What do you do when you think about what you want? How affected are you by what you think you *can* do as opposed to what would make your heart sing?
