Enlightened people are those who have chosen the objectives of their lives and their standard of values themselves, knowing that the world’s sense of values is always changing and not absolute. They are keenly aware that ‘The main character of my life is I’. Only such people can think right and judge right. ‘Right’ doesn’t mean it is right from others’ point of view. It means the state in which they are aware that the judgment they made based on their own standards is right. In other words, it means they have chosen right in their conscience. Only these people can take responsibility for what they have done. In addition, they have the power not to blame their circumstances on others, even if things have gone bad.
Those who can declare that the main character of their lives is themselves; who judge, choose themselves and apply what they’ve chosen in action, can take responsibility for themselves. Only these people can create a new world. That’s because the power of creation comes from correct awareness of themselves and the circumstances given to them.
Enlightenment is to recognize things correctly. To understand phenomena as they are is enlightenment. In awareness, creation is a result of independence and autonomy. To make meaningful creation, you need to know what is necessary for me and this society. Only when your own philosophy is clear can you see that. Otherwise, what is necessary will not be seen hidden under the veil of social ideals. Though you see the truth, you may not recognize it.
When asked to write down their philosophy, many will have no difficulty in stylish writing, quoting lots of famous eastern and western philosophers. However, if anybody looks into their eyes and asks the same thing, few would be able to answer easily.
Only when you have a philosophy for your lives can technology and knowledge be meaningful. I don’t mean that knowledge is useless. However, knowledge collected randomly without your own philosophy is not the material of creation. When anybody looks into your eyes and asks you “What is the philosophy of your life?”, if you can answer with dignity and without hesitation, you are as good as enlightened
