INTESTINAL EXERCISES

Ilchi Lee suggest Intestinal Exercise refers to the rhythmic pulling in and pushing out of the abdominal wall, which stimulates the intestines. This exercise will increase the flexibility of the intestines and facilitate efficient circulation of both energy and blood. If you also tighten your rectal muscles during this exercise, you will be able to gather energy and feel warmth much more quickly. However, you should not overdo this exercise in the beginning, as it may result in some discomfort.

1.    This exercise can be performed standing up or lying down. When standing up, assume the same position as the abdominal clapping position (knees slightly bent, toes turned slightly inward). When lying down, lie on your back with your legs shoulder-width apart. Form a triangle by touching your thumbs and forefingers together, and place them lightly on the lower abdomen.
2.    When pulling in, pull as if the front wall of your abdomen is trying to touch your back. Tighten your rectal muscles at the same time.
3.    Then, as if sucking air out of a balloon, push your lower abdomen out slightly, until you feel outward pressure in your lower abdomen.
4.    Start with one set of fifty and work your way up to a set of three hundred as you advance.

One, Ilchi, and Reality

One is the first number. It’s the beginning and also the ending at the same time.

In cosmic terms, we start from the One and go back to the One. So, One is birth and is also death. Birth and death, beginning and ending, light and dark — these are some of the essential polar opposites that make up our reality.

The Korean character “Il” means “one”, so Ilchi Lee also shows these basic principles of reality in his name. “Il Chi” means “pointing the way” in the sense of pointing to the one path, the best option, the only way to go.

Birds, Ilchi Lee, energy, and freedom of flying

Birds fly freely in the sky. When I do energy dancing, I can become a bird. I can’t become a bird physically, but I can share their energy with them, and feel an echo of their joy in flying. When I practice Dahn Yoga I can become more connected to everything and feel a sensation of sharing energy together. Ilchi Lee wants everybody to experience this, which is why he started Dahn Yoga.

Memories

Each of us knows some people who are suffering from bad memories. Perhaps they were hurt, or witnessed something terrible, or any of the other myriad reasons that we become scarred. Those memories are so painful that they can’t get away from them. I am reminded of Ilchi Lee’s training methods, which in many cases have helped people learn to overcome difficult memories and reclaim their emotional autonomy.

Ilchi Lee: Michelle Rhee’s love for children

Today, I watched one hour video clip on ‘Michelle A. Rhee’, current chancellor of Washington, DC. It was so impressive and touching because I could feel lots of her love for children, conviction, passion. For one hour of watching, whether she shows up or not in the screen, I could feel something and I almost shed tears. She is a really professional with love full in her heart and also great mom of two daughters.

Naturally I could look over my life. What vision do I have? How much of enthusiasm, belief and confidence do I have for that vision?

Ilchi lee says, successful life doesnot depends on the knowledge or talent of a person but belief, conviction, passion, etc.

Now I’m doing a daily exercise to energize and change myself. I’m confident on it. Day by day, I will change. I want to speed up my daily changing with love for all. Let’s do it~

Kid’s Class

Last year I taught a class for preschoolers for a little while. They loved everything as long as there was a story behind it to keep their attention. It’s kind of like the Power Brain Kids book. All of the poses in the book have fun names, especially using animals. The class made the kids so happy! That made me happy :)

Water up, Fire Down helps my brain

What does Su-seung-hwa-gang (“Water Up, Fire Down”) have to do with your brain? At a basic level, your brain controls your body functions, which create and are affected by Su-seung-hwa-gang. On another level, when you have this energy state in your body, your mind is more calm, clear, and positive. It can function optimally. Sounds great to me!

Fun Brain

I found a fun website for kids called http://www.funbrain.com/. There are all sorts of games for kids to play that can keep kids active.

Brain Education for Enhanced Learning Promotional Video

I found this promotional video both YouTube and the Dahn Yoga Daily blog site. It is a great explanation of what is going on in the Brain Education for Enhanced Learning program designed for schools. I can’t seem to embed videos here, so here is the link:

It’s quite informative and entertaining!

Help children to explore their life purpose

“The most precious gift we can give our children is to let questions of the purpose of their existence grow naturally in them, and respond to their questions with the wisdom we have gained from our life experiences. Of course, our answer doesn’t automatically become theirs. They will each find their own path in life. It may be vastly different from ours, or it could be one that is an extension of our experience. In either case, having a sincere exchange about our passion and life purpose gives our children confidence. Their trust and respect for us will grow.”

From www.ilchilee.com. Another reason why we need to live with passion and purpose: to teach it to our children. Sometimes it is easier to do something for others than it is to do it for ourselves.

Promotional Video of the 3rd Annual Brain HSP Olympiad

This is a video from You Tube about the 3rd Annual International Brain HSP Olympiad at the BEST 5 Resort and Spa in Ellenville, NY. Ilchi Lee co-sponsored the event. I spent a day there and love being around all of the bright, happy, positive people, especially the kids! I learned a lot about brain education from the conference portion of the event from famous and interesting speakers.

Did anyone else out there go to it? What was your impression?

Enjoy the promotional video!

Fun Photos

I typed the words “wide mother” into Google images. Here are some pictures I found :) There are all different kinds of mothers.

Children and flexibility

Children, on the other hand, are quite flexible. Not all of them, and they want comfort too, but their brains are still soaking up information. They can soak up Brain Education very easily. Imagine whole families using BE techniques :)

Children on the street

Here they were. Two small kids on the street of NY, trying to play peek-a-boo with me through the glass door. No fear of rejection or being judged. Just full of energy. Once we were all like that. They will lose their innocence and will re-discover the beauty and purity inside of them, hopefully someday. Every child is a genius, who said that?…

Ice cream

I just ate ice cream for the first time in a while… oh my gosh. My body is sooooo confused! How do children eat this much sugar and not feel the body stress?

Stress in the Classroom

I’m enjoying www.brains.org today. I found this article about stress. It demonstrates a need for the Brain Education program in classrooms. It really applies to every situation however. I think stress really comes from fear (fight or flight reaction of the autonomic nervous system). Do we want to base our decisions and our lives on fear?

Stress is more than just uncomfortable, it’s dangerous to the mind and body. In addition to increasing health problems, chronic stress causes problems with our memory systems, blood pressure, problem solving skills, and thought processes in that decision-making region of the brain known as the prefrontal cortex.

Although some teachers feel stress is an inevitable part of the education process, research shows it can actually undermine the learning process. Stress in the classroom or elsewhere, releases a chemical called TMT* into the brain. TMT disrupts working memory and reduces a person’s desire to explore new ideas and creatively solve problems. While students under stress will work “harder”, the quality of the work decreases. The higher the stress, the worse the results. Short term memory is crippled, the student has a difficult time retrieving previous information from memory and decision making ability decreases.

Obviously, we wouldn’t want to remove all stress from life, as a small amount can help keep arousal levels high enough to complete a task. But large amounts, particularly when the stress causes accompanying feelings of fear and anxiety, are dangerous and work against the learning process.

Be careful in the classroom. A little excitement and encouragement built on a strong foundation of trust and care can help build enthusiasm for doing well. An environment perceived as intimidating, frightening and overwhelming can shut the learning process down.

ADHD

This was on brains.org. It would be nice to know how Brain Education’s techniques affect the anatomy and physiology of children’s brains and how they develop. Does anyone know?

~~ ADHD: For years we’ve associated problems in the prefrontal cortex as one of the major contributors to ADHD. Researchers at Queens College in NYC are arguing that model. They hypothesize that the development of this area actually just correlates with the reduction in ADHD symptoms as the person develops. They feel that ADHD is due completely to noncortical dysfunction, develops very early in the brain’s life and remains constant throughout life despite the fact that some symptoms may lessen with development. Haperin, J. & Schulz, K. (2006). Psychological Bulletin, Vol 132(4), 560 - 581.

Juice: is it better than milk?

I think all parents and educators would agree that juice is a better children’s beverage than soda. But what about juice and milk? Many believe that children need the calcium and other nutrients that milk provides. Personally, I think it’s a little strange to drink large quantities of the lactation of another species. We’re the only species that does this, to my knowledge. No wonder so many people become alergic to dairy!

brain humor

Jokes about the human brain abound. Consider this image, representing one common are of brain humor:

Male Brain

But what does this really say about human beings: that we are cynical? We don’t value half the population? What??

Really educating?

How many educational programs purport to develop the brain? Not that many, I think. Many claim to develop children’s thinking power, or their knowledge base, or life skills, but how many are focused directly on developing their brains in a wide and beneficial manner?
