Event helps highlight importance of new form of martial arts

It is commonly thought that martial arts exist only for self defense and actions involved in violence. However, the activity can often be used to channel energy and encourage spiritual growth in the practitioner.
Such is the case with Ilchi Lee’s Dahn Tae Kwan Do. This discipline combines aspects of the traditional Korean martial arts style with the author and philosopher’s own knowledge and understand of how to channel the life energy that surrounds everything.
In order to highlight the benefits of this martial arts discipline, Lee recently held a competition for those who practice it. The event was held last May at Kookhakwon, a nonprofit Korean studies institute in South Korea that was founded by Lee.
The competition gave individuals a chance to show off their skills and to help others learn the benefits of training in Dahn Tae Kwan Do. The practice may have a strong upside for individuals who are looking to reach within themselves and develop a better understand of who they are as a person and attain a greater degree of spiritual growth.
