Heart care while sleeping

This is really what you needed an informative article by Ilchi Lee. In which position do you sleep?

If you sleep on your stomach or on your left side, you are putting pressure on your heart with the additional body weight, while the heart has to continue pumping blood as usual.

This extra burden wears the heart out more quickly. Think about it – you spend more than one third of your life sleeping! To reduce the strain on your heart, sleep on your right side, or on your back. This simple method will add years to your life.

Digest better

Posted Ilchi Lee

Present is a plant for each type of digestion problem.

· AIGREMOINE is useful when the stomach difficulty is accompanied by enteritis, diarrhea and/or chronic liver infection. It helps tone a lazy digestive system. And it also helps regularize acidity and soothe ulcers by improving metabolism.

· ANGELICA is a digestive, an aperitif, refreshment, a tonic. It decongests and soothes stomach pains and swelling. Prepare an infusion (tea) preferably using the fresh plant: 3 1/2 tablespoons of roots per quart of water. If your stomach is very swollen, prepare and drink 3 cups per day made of 5 tablespoons of seeds per quart of water.

· ANISE is a restful digestive. It aids digestion and the elimination of intestinal gas, it soothes stomach cramps, aerophagy, dyspepsia (contractions of the digestive organs, dizziness and a heavy feeling after eating). 2 or 3 cups per day, after meals: 2 tablespoons of seeds per quart of water.

· CHAMOMILE: a digestive, sedative, anti-inflammation agent and tonic. It helps painful or difficult digestion, stomach cramps, gastro-intestinal spasms, loss of appetite, and it helps expulsion of gas (determinative). Particularly recommended for persons who suffer from stomach cramps (and/or who are irritable, temperamental, angry etc.) one cup of infusion, a half hour before meals, or one hour after. To prepare the infusion, add 5 1/2 tablespoons to a quart of hot water and let stand for five minutes.

· CHERVIL: digestive, decorative and diuretic. It also acts as a stimulant. For difficult digestion, drink 2 or 3 cups per day. Prepare an infusion with one teaspoon of dried leaves per cup of water, and let stand for 10 minutes.

· SAGE: The ancients had a saying – “Why die when your garden is full of sage!” It is a digestive, diuretic, antispasmodic and helps combat hypoglycemia. It stimulates the appetite, fortifies the stomach and aids absorption, especially when digestion is hard. It is also a general tonic. Read more Prof Lee’s tips.

SMILING MEDITATION

Suggested by Ilchi Lee

The act of smiling produces positive changes in your brain. This exercise combines that fact with a relaxing meditative exercise.

Sit comfortably and shrug your shoulders up and down several times to relax.

Breathe in and out several times, massaging your face to release the tension in your facial muscles. Breathe in, close your eves gently, and breathe out while forming a slight smile. Breathe in and out deeply and naturally.

Prof Lee says that when breathing out, combine your exhale with a widening smile. Repeat this several times, focusing on the motion of the smile on your face as a light breath escapes through your lips like a gentle wind.

Slowly shift your consciousness to your brain and feel your brain become lighter and more refreshed when you breathe out with a smile.

Menstrual cramps – suffer no more

To decrease the intensity of menstrual symptoms, you can change your diet, Prof Ilchi Lee:

· Less sugar and slightly more protein.

· Diuretic foods such as eggplant, cucumbers and aromatic plant can help diminish water retention.

· Calcium supplement (1 gram per day) and magnesium (500 milligrams) can help reduce worry (always take both).

· Vitamin B-6 (not more than 50 milligrams per day) can ease symptoms of anxiety and stress.

· Vitamins E and C also help reduce the intensity of cramps.

· Aspirin has a mildly soothing effect.

· And once again you can turn to plants to relieve your pains:

* ANGELICA in infusion: 3 1/2 tablespoons of root per quart of water.

* MATRIX (derived from the Latin for womb): 2 teaspoons of flowers per quart of water.

* MILFOI OR YARROW that soothes and decreases overly abundant menstruation: about 5 1/2 tablespoons of flower tops per
quart of water.

* SAGE in infusion: I 1/2 tablespoons of dried leaves per quart of water.

In intense cases, ask your doctor for medication to alleviate pain.

Clearer and calmer state of consciousness

When we become used to feeling energy in our hands, we can maintain the sensitivity and the feeling without having to be in a special position or environment. This also means that it is possible to function in the everyday world in a clearer and calmer state of consciousness.

1. Sit in a half-lotus position and straighten your back.

2. Place your hands on your knees with your palms facing up and close your eyes. Relax your body, especially your neck and shoulders. Relax your mind. Inhale deeply and let go of any remaining tension while exhaling.

3. Raise your hands slowly to chest level, with your palms facing each other but not touching. First concentrate on any sensation you may feel between your palms. You may feel warmth, tingling, or even your own pulse.

4. Now, part your hands about two to four inches and concentrate on the space between them. Imagine that your shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands are floating in a vacuum, weightless.

5. Pull your hands apart and push them closer in again as you maintain your concentration. Feel the energy flow between your palms.

6. When the sensation becomes more real, pull your hands farther apart and push them closer together. Feel the sensation expand and become stronger.

7. Breathe in and out, slowly and deeply, three times. Rub your hands together briskly and gently sweep your face, neck, and chest.

DAHN-MU Part I

Dahn means “energy.” Mu means “dance.” Dahn-mu is a form of dancing with the natural flow of energy, called “the dance of Ki.” writes Ilchi Lee in his book.

This gentle dancing is an effective method to control and utilize Ki. Practitioners usually experience Ki as a gentle vibration inside the body. The Ki usually begins in the hands and then quickly moves through the whole body until the entire body is responding in dance-like movements called Dahn-mu.

INTESTINAL EXERCISES

Ilchi Lee suggest Intestinal Exercise refers to the rhythmic pulling in and pushing out of the abdominal wall, which stimulates the intestines. This exercise will increase the flexibility of the intestines and facilitate efficient circulation of both energy and blood. If you also tighten your rectal muscles during this exercise, you will be able to gather energy and feel warmth much more quickly. However, you should not overdo this exercise in the beginning, as it may result in some discomfort.

1.    This exercise can be performed standing up or lying down. When standing up, assume the same position as the abdominal clapping position (knees slightly bent, toes turned slightly inward). When lying down, lie on your back with your legs shoulder-width apart. Form a triangle by touching your thumbs and forefingers together, and place them lightly on the lower abdomen.
2.    When pulling in, pull as if the front wall of your abdomen is trying to touch your back. Tighten your rectal muscles at the same time.
3.    Then, as if sucking air out of a balloon, push your lower abdomen out slightly, until you feel outward pressure in your lower abdomen.
4.    Start with one set of fifty and work your way up to a set of three hundred as you advance.
